After managing several successful projects for Zaxby’s restaurants, a Sandy Springs franchise owner approached Carter Engineering after purchasing four acres of undeveloped land off Roswell Road. In addition to preparing the master plan for the entire property, including infrastructure for future development, we managed several issues distinct to Sandy Springs’ main street overlay district. Coordinating with multiple partners, including the City of Sandy Springs, City of Atlanta, Fulton County, State of Georgia and Georgia Department of Transportation, we successfully rezoned the parcel to support a drive-through, and secured all required permits. We also provided several value engineering services, including retaining walls, a stormwater pond and utilities.

ALDI Food Store
Illinois-based ALDI, the low-cost grocery leader, selected Carter Engineering for master planning of its first Athens location. Working with Athens-Clarke County and the Department of Transportation, we worked through stringent development restrictions, access and stormwater management issues. In addition, we installed a bio-retention pond for improved water quality. Our personalized approach to client service and communication resulted in successful completion of this project that was managed remotely by ALDI’s corporate team.
Prince Avenue Baptist Church and Christian School
For almost a decade, Carter Engineering has been an integral partner in transforming this Oconee County land parcel into a multi-use campus for Prince Avenue Baptist Church. We launched the partnership by re-zoning the land for special use and creating the master plan, including future considerations which would be developed over time as the church grew. Prince Avenue Christian School moved from downtown Athens to the site in 2006 after we conducted infrastructure improvements, including water and sewage, and planned for the buildings and athletic fields. The church has since moved to the site, and we continue to work together to enhance the campus for students, parishioners and visitors alike.
Cottages of Clemson
When a developer was considering purchasing this undeveloped land parcel, he contacted Carter Engineering to develop the master plan for the proposed detached student housing complex. Once the master plan was complete, it was necessary to rezone the property to allow high density use for the 180-unit complex. We worked successfully with multiple agencies to secure zoning, permitting and construction documents, including Pickens County, the City of Clemson, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and the State of South Carolina.
Multi-Purpose Reservoir
Selected based on our extensive dam engineering experience, we created a peninsula for this elegant private residence. Managing site analysis, permitting and design, in addition to surveying and construction management, we oversaw road development, farm layout and fencing for this previously undeveloped, forested land. The resulting recreational lake envelopes the home, which is accessed via a distinctive bridge designed by Carter Engineering.
Irrigation Reservoir
Based on our experience with the Georgia Safe Dams Program, Carter Engineering was enlisted to design 10 large ponds for a northeast Georgia cattle farm. After developing the master site plan and surveying the property, we developed an irrigation system that covers approximately 500 acres and managed all construction and contractors as it was being built.
